Paralysis Recovery Center Marks 5 Years of Empowering Lives

The Perfect Step, a paralysis recovery center based in Pomona, California, recently celebrated its fifth anniversary at its new state-of-the-art facility. This milestone marks a significant achievement for the organization, which has dedicated itself to empowering individuals affected by paralysis through innovative recovery programs, community engagement, and improved accessibility.

Founded by Hal Hargrave, who experienced a spinal cord injury himself 18 years ago, The Perfect Step aims to inspire hope and resilience among its clients. Hargrave’s journey from a student athlete aspiring to play college baseball to a passionate advocate for the paralysis community reflects a commitment to helping others navigate their own recovery paths. “If somebody’s gonna put risk into our hands, we’ve got to meet them in a place with trust and with hope and with love,” said Hargrave, emphasizing the center’s mission.

Clients at The Perfect Step engage in tailored recovery programs designed to facilitate their individual goals. One such client, Bruce Zang, who arrived with a spinal cord injury, has recently made the decision to transition from using a walker to a cane, signifying a significant step in his recovery journey. For Gavin Martin, a 16-year-old who suffered paralysis following brain tumor surgery, the center has provided renewed hope. Gavin’s father, Mark Martin, shared that his son faced emotional challenges as he watched peers participate in activities he could not. Since joining The Perfect Step, Gavin has regained confidence, expressing aspirations to drive a race car once he completes his recovery.

The center’s approach focuses on restoring independence and mobility. Director of Operations Ashton Wray remarked on the importance of creating an environment where clients can work towards regaining what they have lost. “When they’re here in their sessions with us, we take that away and we try to take what they’ve lost and gain that back,” Wray stated, highlighting the center’s holistic approach to rehabilitation.

Recently, The Perfect Step hosted a celebratory event featuring a red carpet, shining a light on the achievements of its clients over the past five years. This celebration not only commemorated the center’s growth but also underscored the significant transformations experienced by many individuals seeking to reclaim their lives.

With its dedicated staff and innovative programs, The Perfect Step continues to strive for excellence in the field of paralysis recovery. As the organization moves forward, it remains committed to serving the community, creating individualized roadmaps to success for each client who walks through its doors, one perfect step at a time.
