As the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) concludes its fall celebrations, Interim Superintendent Martha Aguirre has issued a message emphasizing recent achievements and ongoing initiatives within the district. Aguirre, who is managing operations during the current search for a new superintendent, highlighted the success of EPISD students and staff, marking a period of significant activity.
Community feedback on the superintendent search remains a priority. Aguirre noted, “Your feedback is helping the Board of Trustees define the leadership qualities in the next superintendent,” according to El Paso ISD. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate through an online portal available until November 2, reinforcing the district’s commitment to inclusive decision-making.
Celebrating Athletic Achievements
In a display of athletic talent, Aguirre recognized twelve EPISD athletes for their participation in the UIL Cross Country State Championships, which took place in Round Rock, Texas. “We want to wish luck to the 12 athletes who will represent EPISD at Round Rock this weekend,” Aguirre stated, cheering for competitors from various high schools, including Austin, El Paso, Coronado, and Franklin.
One standout achievement came from Burges High School senior Jesus Jasso, who was honored for his resilience in overcoming hearing loss. Jasso is set to represent the United States at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo. Aguirre described his journey as a shining example of courage, determination, and Mustang pride, encapsulating a broader narrative of overcoming adversity that resonates throughout the EPISD community.
Hiring Initiatives for Special Education
Aguirre also announced a hiring initiative aimed at strengthening the Special Education Department. To attract dedicated professionals, a job fair is scheduled for November 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Professional Development Center located at 6500 Boeing Drive. The district is actively seeking passionate educators to support students with diverse learning needs, reflecting a core priority for EPISD.
As the district continues to celebrate these accomplishments and enhance its workforce, Aguirre’s leadership during this transitional period remains vital for the community. The emphasis on student achievements, resilience, and recruitment efforts underscores EPISD’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment.
