The Discovery Shoppe League, a non-profit organization operating in Chico, California, since 1959, has made a significant contribution to local charities this year. On March 15, 2024, volunteer Janice Keating presented a check for $25,000 to the Catalyst Prevention Outreach Program. This funding will be allocated for the installation of playground equipment at a domestic violence shelter, aimed at creating a safe space for children who have experienced trauma.
The initiative, led by Catalyst Prevention’s Program Manager, Sarah Sullivan-Avery, and Executive Director, Anastacia Snyder, seeks to provide children with a sense of normalcy. The playground will encourage physical activity while promoting the use of durable and safe equipment that is appropriate for their emotional needs.
The Discovery Shoppe operates entirely on volunteer efforts, and all proceeds from its operations are reinvested into the community. This year, the organization has awarded over $165,381 to sixteen different charities. The shop is located at 315 Flume Street in Chico, and its long-standing commitment has made it a pillar of support for local initiatives.
As part of its charitable mission, The Discovery Shoppe League continues to empower various organizations and enhance the community’s well-being. This recent donation not only supports immediate needs but also fosters a nurturing environment for children facing challenging circumstances.
