Alfred V. “Al” Carbone, a long-time resident of Salem, New Hampshire, and formerly of Woburn, has passed away at the age of ninety-two. He died peacefully on November 22, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of public service and creativity that touched the lives of many in his community.
Born in East Boston to the late Vincent M. Carbone and Antonietta M. (Capone), Al was raised in Woburn. He graduated from Woburn High School, where he developed a profound appreciation for the outdoors, particularly enjoying hunting. Alongside his love for nature, Al nurtured a passion for photography, which became a central part of both his personal and professional life.
A Life of Service and Creativity
Before embarking on a career in public service, Al honorably served in the United States Army and the Merchant Marines, experiences he held close to his heart. His dedication to community service was evident throughout his years as a firefighter for the City of Woburn. Al served with courage, reliability, and a quiet pride, earning the respect of his peers and the community he loved.
In addition to his firefighting career, Al spent decades as a photographer for the Woburn Daily Times. His work captured countless moments in the life of Woburn, preserving the stories and milestones of a community that meant everything to him.
Al is survived by his cherished children: Alan Carbone and his wife Jeanne of Salem, NH; Daniel Carbone and his wife Marianne of Danvers; and Brian Carbone of Salem. He was also the father of the late Lynne Carbone. His family includes his dear sister Janet Carbone of Maine, and the late Peter Carbone and Vincent Carbone. Al was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and a great-grandfather to eight, who brought him immense joy.
Final Farewell and Community Remembrance
Al Carbone will be remembered for his warmth, integrity, and unwavering devotion to family and community. His creativity and inventive spirit, along with his ability to capture moments through his photographs, have left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Charles Church, located at 280 Main Street, Woburn, on December 6 at 11:30 a.m. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Woodbrook Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during calling hours from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, MA 01801.
The community of Woburn and all who knew Al will surely miss his gentle spirit and dedication to service. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
