Community Mourns the Loss of Mildred Danko, 89, Formerly of Republic

Mildred Dolores Louise Danko, aged 89, passed away on November 12, 2025. She was a lifelong resident of Republic, West Virginia, and is remembered for her significant contributions to her community. Mildred was born to the late George and Suzanne Sheba Danko and is preceded in death by her siblings, including an infant brother and sister, as well as her brother, George Albert “Junior” Danko, and her great-nephew, Ryan Danko.

Mildred is survived by her sister-in-law, Eloise Danko, of Ravenswood, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Among them are Roy David of Ravenswood, Edward Michael of Parkersburg, John Thomas and Tonda of Fort Myers, Florida, Albert Stanley and Crystal of Ravenswood, and Georgianne and Robert Long of Ravenswood. Her family also includes many great-nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will cherish her memory.

Mildred’s educational journey concluded at Redstone High School, from which she graduated in 1954. She dedicated 40 years of her career to the Penn State Cooperative Extension, where she served as the secretary and office manager until her retirement in 1996.

Community Contributions and Legacy

A devoted member of the Holy Rosary Church in Republic, Mildred was actively involved in church activities. She served on the Pastoral Council and the Cemetery Committee, and held the position of Eucharistic Minister. Notably, she was the first woman elected to the Board of Directors of the Fayette County Agricultural Improvement Association, where she also served as treasurer.

In addition to her community service, Mildred was a licensed cosmetologist and a member of the Ladies Club of Tower Hill #2, showcasing her diverse interests and dedication to service. Her contributions to the local agricultural community and her church demonstrate a lifelong commitment to bettering the lives of those around her.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff, nurses, and aides at Monarch Meadow and OSPTA for their compassionate care during Mildred’s later years.
