Castle Noel, the unique Christmas-themed museum located in Medina, Ohio, has officially opened its new dining establishment, the Starlight Room. The grand opening took place on December 1, 2023, attended by local dignitaries including Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell and council members. The restaurant enhances the museum’s offerings, which include a wide array of Christmas artifacts and memorabilia.
Owner Mark Claus, known for his Santa-like appearance and cheerful demeanor, expressed his excitement about this new venture. “It’s something I always planned on. This is a family project, and it grows every year,” Claus stated. The Starlight Room aims to provide visitors with not only a festive atmosphere but also a memorable dining experience that complements the museum’s holiday spirit.
A Dazzling Experience Awaits
The Starlight Room features a spectacular ceiling display comprising 10,000 lights that synchronize with music, changing every 15 minutes. Claus emphasized that this visual spectacle adds to the overall magic of Castle Noel. “We’re always trying to make it that much more interesting, that much more magical, that much more detailed,” he remarked.
The restaurant’s menu offers a variety of dishes, including burgers, paninis, and salads, with a special “elves in training” menu for children. Many items are creatively named after popular Christmas characters, such as the Cindy Lou Who Caprese, inspired by the classic tale “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” The dining space is designed to be cozy and inviting, featuring tasteful holiday decorations that enhance the festive atmosphere.
Claus also paid attention to the outdoor area, which now includes heated concrete for comfort during colder months. This renovation aims to make visitors feel as if they are at a resort, enhancing their overall experience at Castle Noel. The courtyard features a nod to film fans with Cousin Eddie’s motor home from the 1989 classic, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
A Vision Realized
Reflecting on the journey of establishing Castle Noel, Claus shared his emotional connection to the location. He recalled the moment he purchased the former Methodist church more than a decade ago, stating, “That’s where our home is now.” His vision for the museum has evolved over the years, with continued investments in the property to create an immersive holiday experience.
According to Kimberly Marshall, Medina’s economic development director, Claus has consistently improved and expanded Castle Noel since its opening in 2013. The museum draws visitors from near and far, allowing families to create cherished holiday memories together.
Castle Noel is located at 260 S. Court St., Medina, conveniently situated near Medina Square. The museum offers public and private tours, with admission prices varying.
