Block Club Chicago has earned the title of Best Daily News Site in an international competition, underscoring its impact in local journalism. The award was presented by Editor & Publisher magazine, a respected trade publication that focuses on newspapers and other media outlets. This accolade is part of a competition that attracts entries from organizations worldwide, judged by a panel of professional journalists.
Notable Achievements and Investigative Reporting
This recognition follows Block Club being named the Best Online-only News Publication in 2021 by the same magazine. Since its inception in 2018, the newsroom has published over 29,000 stories, establishing itself as a vital source of information in Chicago.
Block Club’s commitment to investigative journalism has been evident in its reporting over the past year. In recent months, Block Club’s coverage of the Trump administration’s federal immigration operations, including initiatives like Midway Blitz and At Large, has received significant praise. This work demonstrates the newsroom’s dedication to covering critical issues that affect its community.
Recognition and Support for Local Journalism
Block Club Chicago’s reputation has been further solidified by previous honors, including being named Business of the Year and Publisher of the Year by the Local Independent Online News Publishers and receiving the Community Champion of the Year award from the Institute for Nonprofit News.
