Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas celebrated its 35th annual Awards on December 9, 2025, at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas. The event attracted a full audience at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, showcasing the organization’s longstanding commitment to reproductive health and advocacy.
A highlight of the morning program was a live conversation featuring activist and former First Daughter Barbara Bush, moderated by five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Tashara Parker. Bush, who currently serves as the NBA’s Head of Social Responsibility, shared personal anecdotes about her family, blending humor with poignant reflections on her grandmother’s influence and dedication to family and social causes.
The ceremony also honored notable contributions to the community. The Gertrude Shelburne Humanitarian Award was presented to Froswa’ Booker-Drew, Ph.D., whose acceptance speech emphasized her advocacy for women and communities of color. Booker-Drew highlighted her collaboration with Planned Parenthood on a new initiative aimed at supporting women navigating perimenopause and menopause, reinforcing her broader philanthropic efforts in North Texas.
Another significant recognition was awarded to The Dallas Morning News, which received the Katherine Ripley Print Media Award for its investigative series “The Standard of Fear.” This series critically examined the real-world implications of restrictive reproductive care in Texas through compelling first-person narratives.
Following the awards ceremony, attendees engaged in a unique community initiative. Several local restaurants, including Le Bilboquet, Nonna, Teak Tearoom, Mirador, and Lovers Seafood and Market, participated by donating a portion of their proceeds to Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas. This effort extended the event’s impact beyond the arts district, fostering a spirit of community support.
The gathering brought together numerous supporters and advocates, including Thana Hickman, Missy Falchi, Ken Lambrecht, and many others, uniting in their commitment to advancing reproductive rights and healthcare access.
As Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas continues to navigate the challenges within the realm of reproductive health, events like this serve as vital reminders of the community’s resilience and dedication to advocacy.
