Barbara Todd Benson, aged 77, passed away on July 17, 2025, after a courageous two-year struggle with cancer. Born in 1948 in Passaic, New Jersey, she relocated to Santa Cruz, California, in 1953, where she would spend much of her life.
Growing up in California, Barbara attended Scotts Valley Junior High and graduated from Soquel High in 1967. She further pursued her education at Heald’s Business College. In 1989, she moved to Santa Rosa, where she became known for her vibrant personality and creativity.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Jeff Benson (Patti) from Henderson, Nevada, and Gary Benson (Shannon) from Fresno, California. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, including Nicole, Andrew, Lauren, Scott, and Dean, as well as her great-grandson, Lukas. She is also mourned by her sisters, Laurie Todd (Greg) of Portland, Oregon, and Nancy Todd (Don) of Watsonville, California, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Life Celebrated Through Craft and Humor
Barbara’s passion for crafting defined much of her life. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and gardening, leaving behind a collection of treasured handmade items for her family. Her creativity was boundless, and those who knew her often recall her quirky sense of humor, which she maintained throughout her illness.
Despite facing significant health challenges, Barbara remained positive and resilient. Her family noted that she never complained, displaying a remarkable strength that inspired those around her.

In honor of Barbara’s memory, private family services are set to take place on her birthday in Santa Cruz. Her family expresses that she will be “forever loved and missed.”
