Daviess County Fire Department Hosts Blood Drive for Cancer Patient

The Daviess County Fire Department is organizing a blood drive to support the family of Assistant Chief Shaun Blandford, whose son, Justin Blandford, is currently battling cancer. The event aims to address the financial burden associated with Justin’s treatment, which has included a recent diagnosis that occurred in late 2025.

The blood drive will take place at the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center on March 15, 2026, from 09:00 to 16:00. In a generous initiative, the blood center has committed to donating $5 for every blood donation made during the event, with the funds going directly to the Blandford family. This effort underscores the community’s support for the family as they navigate the challenges of medical treatments and related expenses.

Despite the difficulties posed by Justin’s illness, fire department officials have stated that his prognosis is positive. However, the costs associated with travel for treatments and various medical expenses can accumulate rapidly. This blood drive not only aims to provide critical support for the family but also encourages community members to contribute to this worthy cause.

As the event approaches, local residents are invited to participate and lend their support. The Daviess County Fire Department hopes to rally the community around this initiative, highlighting the importance of coming together in times of need. This drive is a testament to the strength of community ties and the impact of collective efforts in the face of personal challenges.

For those wishing to contribute, the blood drive presents a meaningful opportunity to make a difference in the life of a young boy and his family during a difficult time.
