Sophie Turner has revealed her plans to rebuild her acting career following a significant hiatus to focus on family life. The 29-year-old actress, best known for her role as Sansa Stark in the acclaimed series *Game of Thrones*, is set to return to the screen in 2026 with two major projects: the Prime Video series *Steal* and a new *Tomb Raider* adaptation.
In a recent interview with *The Guardian*, Turner discussed her time away from Hollywood and the challenges she faced after the conclusion of *Game of Thrones* in May 2019. “After *Game of Thrones* finished, I didn’t know what was up and what was down. I needed to discover who I was,” she explained. The actress noted that she received numerous offers for period dramas that echoed her previous role, but felt the need to step away and redefine herself.
Turner began dating pop singer Joe Jonas in 2016 when she was just 20 years old. The couple became engaged a year later and married in 2019, welcoming two daughters, Willa and Delphine, in 2020 and 2022, respectively. However, they separated in late 2023, finalizing their divorce the following year.
Reflections on Career and Family Life
Turner acknowledged the unique challenges of raising young children while managing her career. “It’s really nice. I’m not worrying about my biological clock and all that sort of stuff… it just felt like the right break to focus on me,” she stated. Despite the personal fulfillment, she recognized the impact of stepping away from acting. “You don’t realize how important momentum is in a career, and I stalled it a bit,” she added.
While her time off included a focus on family, Turner did not completely disappear from the industry. She appeared in HBO’s *The Staircase* and ITV’s *Joan*, as well as the film *Do Revenge*. Nevertheless, she is poised for a significant resurgence this year, as her daughters grow older and she feels ready to return to the spotlight.
Upcoming Projects
Turner’s upcoming series, *Steal*, is set to premiere on January 21, 2026, and follows an office worker embroiled in a major heist. Additionally, she has been training intensively for her role as Lara Croft in the new *Tomb Raider* series, which is currently in production and features a talented cast including Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs. Turner has reportedly been training since February and is ready to embody the iconic character.
In another project, Turner reunites with her former *Game of Thrones* co-star Kit Harington in the gothic horror film *The Dreadful*, scheduled for release on February 20, 2024.
As Sophie Turner prepares to make her mark once again in the entertainment industry, her reflections on personal growth and the challenges of balancing career aspirations with family life highlight a relatable journey for many in the public eye. With a strong lineup of projects ahead, Turner appears ready to embrace her next chapter with enthusiasm and determination.
