Gabriel Basso Returns in Season 3 of Netflix’s ‘The Night Agent’

Gabriel Basso reprises his role as Peter Sutherland in the highly anticipated third season of Netflix’s conspiracy thriller, The Night Agent, which has garnered significant attention since its debut in 2023. Basso expressed surprise at the show’s success, noting that predicting audience reception is never straightforward. “When you’re making something, you never can anticipate how it’s going to do,” Basso said in a recent interview. “It’s always very subjective in terms of what catches on. So yes, it’s nice so many appreciate it.”

In the series, Basso’s character starts as a lowly FBI agent, tasked with monitoring a silent phone in a basement closet of the White House. His mundane existence changes dramatically when he uncovers a complex conspiracy that reaches the highest echelons of government. Basso describes Peter Sutherland as a character constantly under pressure, facing life-threatening situations that test his decision-making abilities. “He’s constantly being thrown into situations that might destroy him, get him killed, or get the people he loves hurt,” Basso explained.

As the story unfolds, Sutherland evolves from his humble beginnings to become a field agent. Yet, the repercussions of his choices from the previous season continue to haunt him. “The circumstances are always changing. He basically made decisions in Season 2 that he’s now dealing with the consequences of,” Basso noted.

Basso, who is now 31 years old, has a keen understanding of the relentless tension that defines his character’s world. He quipped about his own level of paranoia, stating, “I have a very healthy baseline level of paranoia. So I feel good. I feel right at home where Peter is.”

In addition to his work on television, Basso has ventured into writing and illustrating a children’s book titled The Growth of Lost Things, set to be released in the spring of 2024. “I’m a fan of history, and I’m constantly fascinated with the arrogance of younger generations, forgetting everything that had come before them,” he shared.

The book addresses profound themes such as loss and acceptance, reflecting on how contemporary society often struggles with these concepts. “There are a lot of lessons to learn from the ability in the past to accept and function with loss and death,” Basso explained. He believes it is essential for children to understand that death is a natural part of life, rather than something to fear.

Basso’s insights reflect a broader societal trend where discussions around mortality and acceptance are often shunned. “In the West, I feel there’s just a lot of fear and denial. A refusal to accept the natural order of life,” he said. His book aims to facilitate conversations between parents and children about these unavoidable truths.

As The Night Agent continues to captivate audiences with its thrilling narrative, Basso’s multifaceted talent as both an actor and author sets him apart in the entertainment landscape. The third season is now available for streaming on Netflix, promising viewers another round of intrigue and suspense.
