Connecticut’s Wicked Gluten-Free Expo Set to Draw Thousands

The upcoming Wicked Gluten-Free Expo in Connecticut is poised to attract thousands of attendees eager to indulge in food options free from gluten. Scheduled for February 28, 2026, at Mohegan Sun, this event aims to provide a welcoming atmosphere for individuals with gluten-related disorders, including celiac disease and gluten sensitivities.

Last year’s expo drew approximately 5,000 people and featured over 100 vendors, offering a diverse range of gluten-free food choices. Abby Helman Kelly, the organizer of the event, expressed her commitment to creating joyful experiences for attendees. She recounted a heartfelt moment from last year when a mother, emotional with gratitude, thanked her for providing a safe dining space for her daughter.

This year’s expo promises to be even larger, with more vendors and food trucks, all offering free samples of gluten-free delights. Attendees can look forward to a menu that includes fried dough, chicken tenders, French fries, tater tots, macaroni and cheese, empanadas, burritos, barbecue, and cornbread. Kelly emphasized that all consumables will be gluten-free, eliminating the need for customers to read labels, as she has thoroughly vetted each vendor.

For many, including Kelly, who has been gluten-free for over a decade, the expo represents more than just food; it embodies a sense of community. Kelly, who launched the expo business without prior experience in entrepreneurship, stated, “My mission was to make life easier and a little more delicious for gluten-free people like me.” Her efforts have not only connected large and small businesses but also provided a platform for individuals to enjoy their favorite foods without concern.

The expo aims to address the growing prevalence of gluten-related disorders. According to estimates, approximately 1 in 133 Americans is affected by celiac disease, with many cases remaining undiagnosed. Kelly noted that the overall number of individuals with celiac disease has reportedly increased over time, highlighting the need for accessible gluten-free options.

As part of the expo’s mission, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of gluten-free products, including pizza crusts, baking flour, protein bars, pretzels, snacks, and sauces. A unique offering this year will be an ice cream truck featuring gluten-free and dairy-free options.

The expo not only attracts local participants but also draws attendees from afar. For instance, one attendee expressed excitement about flying in from Texas to join the festivities. Tickets for the event are priced at $27.50 for adults, $8 for children aged 6 to 12, while children aged 5 and under can attend for free.

In addition to the Connecticut event, Kelly announced that other Wicked Gluten-Free expos are scheduled for July 18, 2026, in Philadelphia and September 19, 2026, in Massachusetts, with further locations to be announced on their website. The expos not only provide a day of enjoyment for those with gluten sensitivities but also raise awareness about the challenges they face in their daily lives.

The Connecticut Wicked Gluten-Free Expo is more than just a food event; it is an opportunity for individuals to connect, explore, and celebrate their dietary choices in a supportive environment. More information on the event can be found at https://wickedglutenfree.com/.
