Roland E. Bray, a cherished musician and community figure, passed away on November 12, 2025, at the age of 75. His journey in life, marked by a deep commitment to faith and music, has left an enduring impact on those who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sallie A. Bray, as well as his children and grandchildren from previous marriages.
Born on August 11, 1950, in Lebanon, Indiana, Bray dedicated his life to Christ from an early age. His passion for music flourished during the Jesus Revolution of the early 1970s. As a member of the Wildwoods Gospel Group, he shared his faith through song, further developing his musical ministry throughout his life. After forming a Christian Rock Band called Liberated in Indiana, he later relocated to Kansas City, where he and his wife established their final music ministry, Bearing Armor.
Bray’s ministry reached diverse communities, including prisons, festivals, and numerous churches. He was known for his commitment to spreading the word of Jesus, often sharing a Bible verse each morning on his Facebook page. His gentle spirit and selflessness were evident in his willingness to help those in need, embodying the values he cherished.
In October 2019, Bray and his wife moved to Kilgore, Texas. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, enjoying rides on his Harley, and had a passion for writing music as well as attending car and truck shows. His love for family was profound, as he cherished his children and two grandchildren, Layla and Clay.
Bray is remembered fondly by his family, including his sister Cathy Muir and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his brothers John, Roy, and Carl, along with his parents, Charles Bray and Cathern Viles.
A Celebration of Life will take place on December 13, 2025, at Go Forth Baptist Church, located at 3800 E. GoForth Road, Kilgore, Texas. The service will commence at 11:00 am, followed by a lunch for attendees. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Go Forth Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Heart Association.
The legacy of Roland E. Bray as a devoted husband, father, and musician will continue to resonate within the hearts of many, reflecting a life lived in service to others and a deep commitment to faith.
