Vestavia Hills Schools to Receive New Gym Floors This Summer

Five schools in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, are set to receive new gymnasium floors this summer, according to a decision made by the Vestavia Hills Board of Education. The board approved a budget of $680,750 to contract with Scout Sport Flooring for the installation of new floors at Vestavia Hills Elementary East, Vestavia Hills Elementary West, Vestavia Hills Elementary Liberty Park, Vestavia Hills Elementary Dolly Ridge, and Pizitz Middle School. Installation is scheduled to take place during the summer break when students will not be present.

The board’s decision follows a thorough evaluation of bids for the project. Although Covington Flooring Co. submitted the lowest bid at approximately $579,000, the school district opted for Scout Sport Flooring based on the superior quality of their product. Ty Arendall, the director of operations for the district, highlighted this rationale in a letter addressed to both the school board and Superintendent Todd Freeman. A third bid from Ram Enterprises was also considered, totaling $753,700.

The Vestavia Hills Board of Education had allocated $800,000 for this initiative in its 2026 capital plan, ensuring funds were available for the quality flooring that was ultimately chosen.

Additional School Board Developments

In addition to the gym floor project, the board concluded discussions on a parking lot expansion project at Vestavia Hills High School. The project was completed for about $51,000 less than initially projected, bringing the final cost to $579,000. This financial efficiency reflects the board’s commitment to prudent fiscal management while enhancing school facilities.

Overall, these improvements are expected to enhance the physical education experience for students across the district, ensuring that athletic activities can be conducted in environments that meet modern standards for safety and performance.
