Lehigh Valley superintendents have shared their appreciation for the support systems that enable them to lead their school districts effectively. In responses collected by The Morning Call, these educational leaders highlighted the importance of community, staff, and student relationships as pivotal to their success this school year.
Lynn Fuini-Hetten, superintendent of Salisbury School District since 2021, expressed her gratitude for both her family and professional colleagues. She stated, “Personally, I’m deeply thankful for my family and friends for their love, patience, and support through every season. They remind me daily of what truly matters: laughter around the dinner table, shared stories, and time together.” Fuini-Hetten also praised the Salisbury faculty and staff for their dedication. “Each day, I’m reminded of the power of teamwork, compassion, and purpose,” she added.
The sentiments of appreciation were echoed by Chris Schiffert, superintendent of Whitehall-Coplay School District, who emphasized the resilience of the staff. “With so much constant change and challenge, our teachers, administrators, and support personnel consistently rise to the occasion,” Schiffert noted. He highlighted the collective energy and professionalism of the district staff, stating their commitment extends beyond the classroom to ensure every student feels safe and engaged.
Joseph Kovalchik, who has served as superintendent of Northampton Area School District for over 15 years, reflected on the relationships built throughout his tenure. “What I am most grateful for are the relationships that I have developed with the students, staff, and community over the years,” he said. Kovalchik believes these connections have fostered significant successes within the school community.
The spirit of gratitude continued with Mark Madson, superintendent of Parkland School District, who praised the community’s support. “The dedication and compassion demonstrated by everyone within the Parkland School District is truly special,” he stated. Madson highlighted the genuine acceptance and care shown by the community, which he believes contributes to a nurturing environment for students.
Karen Trinkle, who took on her role as Southern Lehigh superintendent this summer, emphasized the importance of unity among staff. “This unity allows us to implement strategic initiatives,” she explained. Trinkle underscored the shared vision that helps turn goals into daily realities, celebrating the diverse talents showcased by students through various accomplishments.
At Northwestern Lehigh, Jennifer Holman acknowledged the critical role of the school board and community partners. “I’m grateful for our teachers, administrators, and staff whose dedication makes our schools places of learning, stability, and care,” Holman remarked. She expressed appreciation for the Board of Directors’ steady leadership, which she believes is vital in supporting student success.
The broader community also received recognition from Jack Silva, superintendent of Bethlehem Area School District. He stated, “I am endlessly thankful for the richness and generosity of the Bethlehem community toward BASD schools.” Silva noted that the culture resulting from community involvement is cherished by students and staff alike.
In Catasauqua Area School District, Christina Lutz-Doemling shared her gratitude for the opportunity to serve. “I am thankful for the privilege to serve the students, families, and larger Catasauqua educational community,” she said. Lutz-Doemling expressed pride in the district’s achievements and the collaborative efforts of the entire team.
Finally, Jaime Vlasaty, superintendent of Saucon Valley School District, concluded the series of reflections by acknowledging the community’s strength and spirit. “My heart is full of genuine gratitude for the profound privilege of serving the Saucon Valley School District,” she stated. Vlasaty described the rewarding experience of witnessing the impact of collective efforts on student futures.
