Jackson County ISD Superintendent Kevin Oxley Announces Retirement

Jackson County Intermediate School District (JCISD) Superintendent Kevin Oxley has announced his retirement after 17 years of service, effective at the end of the current school year. In a letter addressed to the school board on December 17, 2023, Oxley expressed his excitement about moving on to the next chapter of his life, stating, “I’ve lived my life on a school-year calendar since I was four years old and I’m excited to ‘graduate’ and begin a new chapter.”

Oxley’s last day in office will be June 30, 2024. The district is currently accepting applications for a new superintendent, with a submission deadline of January 2, 2024. This transition marks a significant change for the JCISD, which serves public schools, charter academies, and parochial schools in the Jackson County area.

The superintendent expressed his heartfelt gratitude toward the board members he has worked with throughout his tenure, highlighting their support and guidance. Oxley conveyed confidence that the JCISD will continue to achieve great things for its students in the future.

In a statement reflecting on Oxley’s contributions, David Salsbury, president of the JCISD Board of Education, remarked, “Superintendent Oxley has been a tremendous asset to the JCISD and to the entire educational community of Jackson County. While we are saddened to see him step into retirement, we are deeply grateful for all he has accomplished for our students.” Salsbury emphasized the importance of prioritizing student needs, a principle Oxley has consistently upheld during his time in leadership.

Before his role as superintendent, Oxley accumulated a wealth of experience in education. He began his career as a teacher in Reed City and held various administrative positions within the Northwest Community Schools and the Western School District. Additionally, he served as the JCISD’s director of career and secondary education and assistant superintendent prior to becoming the district’s leader.

The JCISD plays a crucial role in the educational landscape of Jackson County, providing essential services such as special education, early childhood programs, career and technical education, professional development, technology support, and operational services to its schools.

As the Jackson County community prepares for this leadership transition, Oxley’s legacy within the educational system will be remembered for its focus on student success and community engagement. The search for his successor will shape the future direction of the district, ensuring continuity in its mission to support the diverse needs of students in the region.
