San Antonio’s Whitney Hotel to Transform into Affordable Housing

The San Antonio Housing Trust (SAHT) has approved plans to convert The Whitney Hotel into a mixed-income housing complex, addressing the growing need for affordable living options in San Antonio’s District 1. This initiative will provide a total of 220 housing units, with a mix designed to accommodate various income levels, including 5 units at 40% of the Area Median Income (AMI), 35 units at 50% AMI, and 71 units at 80% AMI, while the remainder will be offered at market rates.

Located at 425 Bonham Street, just a short distance from the historic Alamo and the proposed new Spurs arena, the hotel was originally built in 1996 and last renovated in 2004. The conversion reflects a strategic approach by the city to enhance affordable housing options in a prime downtown area.
