URGENT UPDATE: Skoda has just unveiled a stunning new electric sedan concept, a reimagining of its iconic 100/110 model, which sold over one million units from 1969 to 1977. As part of the brand’s “Icons Get a Makeover” series, this striking design showcases Skoda’s commitment to innovation, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge technology.
The Czech automaker, currently the third best-selling brand in Europe with a 6.3 percent market share, has embraced its heritage while looking to the future. Skoda’s exterior designer, Martin Paclt, has crafted this concept without relying heavily on retro elements, opting instead for a bold, imaginative approach. Notably, this electric sedan features a unique design that eliminates the rear window, replacing it with a body-colored panel that includes a central fin for air intake.
This revolutionary concept, based on the current-generation Superb, has a total length of 163.6 inches (4,155 millimeters), making it larger than the original model. The innovative design includes dual trunk layouts, allowing for increased storage space above the drivetrain. Despite its modern features, subtle nods to the classic 100 remain, such as discreet rear-fender vents and LED light bars that echo the original’s chrome strip.
While these digital renderings are purely conceptual and crafted for fun during after-hours by Skoda designers, they highlight the brand’s creative potential. Unfortunately, Skoda confirms that the 100/110 concept will not enter production, as it does not align with the company’s current lineup shifting towards electric models like the upcoming Octavia and the recently previewed Vision O EV wagon concept.
As Skoda continues this imaginative series, the excitement builds around what other historic models could be revitalized. These creative exercises not only celebrate Skoda’s rich history but also resonate with fans and automotive enthusiasts eager for a taste of the future.
Stay tuned for further updates as Skoda continues to innovate and redefine its legacy in the automotive landscape. This latest concept may not make it to the showrooms, but it certainly showcases the brand’s vision for electric mobility and its commitment to engaging with consumers through nostalgic yet forward-thinking designs.
