Seven educators from Eastern Oregon have been awarded $200 grants for their classrooms as part of a broader initiative by the STCU credit union. Announced on November 4, 2023, this program is distributing a total of $20,000 to 100 randomly selected teachers across Eastern Oregon, Washington, and North Idaho. The grants aim to enhance students’ classroom experiences, allowing winners to allocate funds towards resources that best meet their needs.
Among the recipients are notable educators such as Bailey Watson from Highland Hills Elementary School in Hermiston, Emma Norquist from McKay Creek Elementary School in Pendleton, and Michelle Herburger from Washington Elementary School, also in Pendleton. The program highlights the commitment of STCU, a nonprofit organization founded by educators in 1934, to support local teachers and their students.
The other four recipients from Eastern Oregon include Monica Harris from Stella Mayfield Elementary School in Elgin, as well as Jordan Hook and Mark Keffer from Enterprise Elementary School in Enterprise. Additionally, Kayla McWater of Joseph Charter School in Joseph has also benefited from this initiative.
The online drawing was open to a range of educational professionals, including teachers, counselors, and other classroom-based positions from both public and private districts within the regions served by STCU. The organization’s focus on educational support reflects its long-standing mission to enhance the learning environment for students.
With over 300,000 members, STCU continues to play a vital role in the community by supporting educational initiatives. The grants represent a significant investment in the region’s future, empowering teachers to provide enriching experiences that can help shape the minds of young learners.
