Food safety inspections conducted by the Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH) from February 1 to 7, 2026, revealed alarming violations at several establishments. Reports highlighted the presence of mold, rodent droppings, and cockroaches, raising concerns about public health and safety.
During the inspections, multiple food and drink establishments were assessed. Each facility is inspected at least once a year, with additional visits prompted by initial failures or complaints. The MCOPH emphasized that these reports provide only a “snapshot” of cleanliness and may not reflect the long-term conditions of the establishments.
Notable Violations Across Multiple Locations
Among the establishments inspected, Dunkin Donuts locations in Collegeville and Norristown featured prominently in the reports. The Collegeville site faced a follow-up inspection that identified multiple roach-like insects in the kitchen. Inspectors granted the facility ten business days to provide proof of pest control measures. Additionally, the facility operated without a current MCOPH license, facing a 48-hour deadline for compliance.
At another Dunkin Donuts location in Norristown, the inspector noted an employee consuming food in a food preparation area, which is against health regulations. A follow-up inspection revealed that while no pests were observed this time, several violations remained unaddressed.
Ristorante Positano, located in Ardmore, was cited for unclean food-contact surfaces and ice build-up in freezers. Similarly, Cafe San Pietro was found storing hoisin sauce in an unapproved manner and lacked necessary sanitization tools.
Impact on Public Health and Safety
The presence of mold and rodent droppings at various establishments underscores significant risks to consumer health. The MCOPH stated that while many violations are often rectified during inspections, the recurrence of serious issues could lead to legal actions, including potential closures.
The MCOPH encourages the public to report any health concerns following dining experiences. Customers can submit complaints through the department’s online form. An accessible food safety inspection database is also available, allowing individuals to review the compliance history of specific establishments.
The findings from these inspections serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining high food safety standards. Ensuring that food establishments comply with health regulations not only protects patrons but also sustains the integrity of the local food service industry. Continued scrutiny and accountability from regulatory bodies like the MCOPH are essential in safeguarding public health.
