Seven students from Springfield High School have begun the academic year with a significant accomplishment, having earned state certifications as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). This achievement follows their successful completion of the Ohio certification exam, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the school.
Career Pathways Program Enhances Learning
These certifications are part of the Springfield City School District‘s innovative Career Pathways program, which aims to prepare high school students for in-demand careers. The program includes coursework in various fields, including healthcare, engineering, manufacturing, construction, digital media, business, culinary arts, and unmanned aerial systems.
The CNA pathway consists of two courses: CNA Certification and Patient-Centered Care. Through these courses, students receive comprehensive training that equips them with essential skills in patient care. This includes monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, performing safety checks, maintaining sanitary environments, and interpreting electrocardiograms (EKGs).
Immediate Employment Opportunities for Graduates
With their new certifications, these students are now qualified for immediate employment opportunities in various healthcare settings, including hospitals and long-term care facilities.
To further support this educational initiative, the Springfield City Schools introduced a new lab space prior to the start of the school year. This facility allows students to engage with real clinical equipment and participate in simulations, enhancing their hands-on learning experience.
The success of these seven students highlights the benefits of the Career Pathways program and demonstrates how local educational initiatives can effectively prepare young individuals for their future careers.
