Rocklin High School Launches New Criminal Justice Course for Students

Rocklin High School has introduced a new course designed to educate students about the criminal justice system, in collaboration with local law enforcement and Sierra College. The course, titled AJ50 – Intro to Criminal Justice, is a dual-enrollment class that commenced following its initial rollout last semester at Whitney High School.

Under the leadership of Lieutenant Greg Jensen and Captain Chad Morris from the Rocklin Police Department, more than 30 students are now engaging with various aspects of the justice system, guided by professionals who are actively involved in law enforcement. The partnership between Rocklin High School, Sierra College, and the Rocklin Unified School District aims to offer this course annually at both high schools, enhancing educational opportunities in the community.

Principal Pappas demonstrated his support by welcoming students on the first day of the course, an event highlighted by the police department through a social media post. The initiative not only aims to provide education but also to build meaningful relationships between students and law enforcement.

According to the Rocklin Police Department’s communication, the program is focused on “building strong relationships with students and possibly sparking an interest in future public safety professionals.” The course is designed to immerse students in topics related to service, leadership, and the commitment required for a career in law enforcement.

Rocklin’s initiative is part of a broader strategy to invest in youth by bridging the gap between education and public service. The police department expressed pride in creating opportunities for students to engage with the community and observe the impact of public service. They emphasized that fostering a connection with young individuals is essential for investing in a positive future.

Through this course, students will gain invaluable insights into the workings of the criminal justice system and have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of public safety roles. The program reflects a commitment to enriching the educational experience while preparing students for potential careers in law enforcement and related fields.
